At Timebreak studio, we constantly push the boundaries of high-speed cinematography.
One of our latest projects—which we also shared on our
Instagram—captures a visually striking moment:
a frozen vodka bottle breaking through a solid ice surface and scattering ice fragments into the air in a perfectly controlled explosion.

Concept and scene preparation

The goal was to capture strength and fragility in a single moment. Ice represents solidity, while the bottle brings dynamics and energy.

To achieve maximum control, we built a custom table where individual pieces of ice were precisely positioned.
They were prepared to form a compact surface that would break into visually appealing fragments upon impact.

Key factors included:

  • proper freezing of the ice,
  • precise placement of the blocks,
  • and overall structural stability.

Technology used

For capturing the shot, we used top-tier equipment:

Precise synchronization

The bottle was launched using an ultra-precise pneumatic piston, which:

  • ensured exact speed,
  • was synchronized with the camera movement,
  • and hit the perfect recording moment.

At 1000 fps, any inaccuracy becomes immediately visible.

Moment of impact

Upon contact with the ice:

  • it shatters into thousands of fragments,
  • individual pieces rotate through the air,
  • light refracts through the ice structure,
  • creating an almost unreal visual effect.

Result

A fraction of a second transforms into a fascinating slow-motion sequence that combines physics, technology, and creativity.

Where it was created

The entire project was realized in our specialized studio:
